On February 12, 2021, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced that international students who have to complete their studies via distance/online learning due to the impact of COVID-19 are still eligible for a Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP).
This is a further approach to assist international graduates in obtaining Canadian work experience and permanent residency.
On January 27, 2021, IRCC established a new policy that allows PGWP holders to apply for a new open work permit. Check our “Post-secondary work permit holders can apply for a new open work permit” for more information.
The Government of Canada encourages international graduates to stay and apply their skills and knowledge to the local economy, especially due to the serious impact of COVID-19.
