On February 16, 2021, the Ontario government invited Express Entry candidates who have computer technology work experience to apply for the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP). This particular invitation is also called Tech Draw.
Tech Draw is a sub-stream under Ontario’s Express Entry Human Capital Priorities stream. The Ontario government welcomes foreign skilled workers to live and work in Ontario. Among all applicable occupations, computer technology-related workers are the most desirable.
The February 16, 2021 Tech Draw targeted the following occupations under the National Occupational Classification (NOC):
- Computer and information systems managers (NOC code: 0213. Skill Type 0)
- Computer engineers (NOC code: 2147. Skill Level A)
- Database analysts and data administrators (NOC code: 2172. Skill Level A)
- Software engineers and designers (NOC code: 2173. Skill Level A)
- Computer programmer and interactive media developers (NOC code: 2174. Skill Level A)
- Web designers and developers (NOC code: 2175. Skill Level A).
To be eligible for Ontario nomination under the Human Capital Priorities Stream, you must first have a valid Express Entry profile and possess the required skilled work experience.
Further, you must be eligible for one of the following programs under Express Entry:
- Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) program, and
- Canadian Experience Class (CEC).
Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score and Ontario nomination
The February 16, 2021 Tech Draw only invited Express Entry candidates whose CRS scores were between 453 and 467.
On February 13, 2021, the Canadian government invited a record-breaking amount (more than 27,000) of CEC candidates under Express Entry to apply for permanent residency. The lowest cut-off score was 75. Read my article “Canadian Government launches most Express Entry invitations in history” for more information.
Further, the most recent Express Entry draw dated December 23, 2020, for Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) candidates required the lowest cut-off score of 468.
A successful Ontario immigration nominee will receive an additional 600 CRS points. For those who cannot reach the minimum cut-off score of each Express Entry draw, a nomination almost guarantees a receipt of an invitation to apply for Canadian permanent residency under Express Entry.
