OHSA defines workplace violence as physical force or attempted exercise of physical force by an individual that likely causes personal injury of the worker. In addition, a threat or behaviour that implies physical force might also contribute to workplace violence.
Workplace violence can be complex. For example, if a coworker intentionally caused injury of an employee, the injury might then become a result of an assult covered by Canada’s Criminal Code or a result of workplace injury covered by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act.
